Frances Herring graduated from Lenoir County Public Schools in 1992. After high school, she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. Frances moved to Birmingham, Alabama and attended the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and earned her Juris Doctor in 1999 and was admitted to the Alabama Bar the same year. She came home to Eastern North Carolina when she married her husband, Mark, and began teaching English at her alma mater, Kinston High School. Frances taught high school English for five years and then served as Assistant Principal at Kinston High School for two years. She earned her Masters in School Administration from East Carolina University. She has been the principal at Contentnea-Savannah K-8 School in Lenoir County since 2011. Frances is currently the Southeast Regional Principal of the Year. She has been married to Mark for thirteen years and they have two children, Jane (9) and Jack (6).
