Leaders of Instructional Coaches: Coaching the Coaches (Part 1)

This session highlights the importance of collaboration in the principal/leader-coach relationship and will feature strategies for leading that relationship. The tools shared will emphasize the importance of strong coaching models, creating clear roles, and defining coaching goals and relating them to specific student outcomes.

Customized PD - It Can Be Done!

Does your LEA have teachers at varying proficiency levels in regards to curriculum knowledge, instructional effectiveness and the proper use of assessment? Does your current PD plan meet the needs of all? This session will provide a model of individualized professional development that can be replicated in any LEA. The model is directly aligned to the NC Teaching Standards and uses a Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment rubric to measure individual growth and district effectiveness.

Assessment Strategies for Second Language

In this workshop, we look at Formative Assessment attributes and processes and how to relate them to varied tech and non-tech strategies that can be used not only with World Language students but also to support the needs of English Language Learners – ELLs. BYOD is encouraged!

College Central Hub

College Central serves as a hub for college material to include college application advising, scholarships, SAT, ACT, fee waivers, interview skills, resume' building, summer enrichment, college fair and university field trips, onsite college admissions offering, and much more. The college advisor assists students, parents, teachers and administrators with test prep and course selection advising.

Integrating STEM Through a Modular Environment

Craven County Schools has implemented modular learning environments for elementary science, 8th grade math, Math I, and CTE Technology Education. Each modular environment emphasizes application of skills through hand-on learning activities. Students are exposed to various STEM industries and careers that are available in Eastern North Carolina.

Rigor, Depth, and Complexity

The intended outcomes of this session are to define rigor in instruction, study and use Karen Hess' rigor matrix, and review and evaluate rigor resources. Participants will have hands-on opportunities to explore ways to increase the level of rigor in classroom instruction. Districts will leave with presentation-ready resources and materials to begin building capacity for rigorous instruction in their LEA.

ASW Process (Administrators)

The Analysis of Student Work (ASW) Process is the Standard 6 measure that AP/IB, Arts Education, Healthful Living, and World Language teachers will use beginning in the 2014-2015 school year. This session provides an overview of the ASW process for administrators and professional development materials to facilitate the first year of implementation.

Instructional Resources in SchoolNet

This overview of Schoolnet will show attendees how to search for and create instructional materials. Participants will also be trained on how to use the Lesson Planner tool built into Schoolnet. This session will be an introduction for participants who will receive hands on experience and have an opportunity to ask questions.

The presentation relates how effective, data driven, instruction and incorporating using best practices when teaching the Extended Content Standards relates to Standard IV of the Teacher Performance Appraisal.

During this session participants will receive Read to Achieve updates, participate in regional data reviews, and have a collaborative discussion focused on the framework for supporting the upcoming year.

CTE WorkKeys

As districts wrestle with how to increase performance in each facet of the state accountability model, WorkKeys proposes a particular challenge—a significant percentage of overall performance is based on scores of Concentrators and not all students. To help districts understand the importance of WorkKeys testing, CTE directors will share information about what WorkKeys testing entails, explore ways to improve performance, and allow time to discuss options. Methods of improvement will range from promotion and communication to in-class and outside-of-class options. Strategies for improvement will be included.

Chart Your Course:Navigating Informational Text and Literature

Climb aboard, me hearties and be a pirate thee! Join three fellow buccaneers in navigating the high seas of ELA Common Core! This session has been designed to show participants how to create and facilitate student use of standards-based visual charts to guide the reading of both informational text and literature. This presentation is adapted from Dr. Roslyn Linder's book Chart Sense: Charts to Teach 3-8 Informational Text and Literature.

Becoming Linguistically Agile: Literacy in High School Classrooms

This course will give teachers tools to help their students become agile readers, writers and thinkers. Participants will be prepared to teach students how to access linguistic structures and be more adept at consuming, interpreting and producing information that will enable them to be successful beyond high school.
